    What are the grounds for divorce?

    If you can establish one of the following grounds, then providing you have been married for at least one year, you should be entitled to a divorce:

    • your spouse has committed adultery
    • your spouse’s behaviour has been such that you can no longer be reasonably expected to live with them
    • your spouse deserted you at least two years ago
    • you have lived apart for two years and both of you agree to a divorce
    • you have lived apart for at least five years
